Description

An original statue from the production of Tim Burton's 1989 superhero blockbuster Batman starring Michael Keaton as the caped crusader opposite Jack Nicholson in his unforgettable portrayal of The Joker.

An ultimately unfilmed sequence from the movie required the construction of a large statue which was to be placed in Gotham City by The Joker (Jack Nicholson) replacing one of John T. Gotham, for this a clay maquette was created by sculptor Keith Short which after approval was rendered in to a large version, a limited number of these statues were then cast from the original maquette and gifted to senior crew members.

Constructed from cold cast resin in order to offer a metallic style finish the statue features the likeness of Jack Nicholson as The Joker in a typical pose, this mounted atop a base of routed wood which features felt to the bottom in the purple colour of the Joker's signature wardrobe, a brass plaque is etched 'BATMAN 1988, THE JOKER by JACK NICHOLSON'.

The final photographs presented here show the large Joker statue behind the scenes at Pinewood Studios during the production with the final photograph showing the exact maquette from which these statues were produced. Several copies of these statues which are constructed from basic resin, incorrectly finished with paint and often with no plaque or incorrect base have appeared on the collectors market over the years, this represents a very rare opportunity to acquire the genuine article.

The statuette stands an impressive 17.5" high and 15" wide at the extremities, it remains in very good condition with vintage repairs to the hand and one arm, minimal age related wear to the base, fine patina.

An extremely rare, infinitely displayable and instantly recognisable artefact from this Academy Award winning superhero classic which requires no introduction.
