Description

An original costume attributed to the production of Under Capricorn, the 1949 picture directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

This waistcoat of cream satin was created by noted industry tailors Western Costume, likely as a stock piece, and is believed to have been allocated for use by director Alfred Hitchcock for one of his cameo appearances in Under Capricorn. The wardrobe is of consistent style and size and features a Western Costume label to the interior which is stamped 30593, this predating the production of the aforementioned picture, and hand inscribed 'A. HITCHCOCK' in black pen with the chest size 45 below. The piece exhibits evidence of later modifications for use in a subsequent unknown production to include the addition of gold braiding and buttons.

The costume remains in good vintage condition with some wear and and sweat stains to the underarms.

An extraordinarily rare artefact from the career of one of the most influential and noted individuals in the history of cinema.
