Superman flying miniature
An original prop from the production of Superman, the 1978 superhero classic starring Christopher Reeve in the title role.
Various techniques were employed for the visual effects sequences of Superman flying including wire rigs, bluescreen, front projection and miniatures. This miniature is one of a number constructed in various scales by the talented visual effects team for use in flying sequences, scratch built from fibreglass and hardened material the figure is in typical flying pose and features the iconic emblem to the chest. Following the production of the first two films this miniature was retained by noted effects artist Derek Meddings who was the recipient of a special Academy Award for achievement in visual effects for his contribution to the picture.
The miniature measures approximately 5.5" and remains in excellent vintage condition exhibiting some minor paint wear, overall fine.
An instantly recognisable and highly displayable artefact from this Academy Award winning picture which remains an influential favourite of the superhero genre.
