Description

An original prop used in the production of BBC Television Shakespeare, the series of television adaptations of the plays of William Shakespeare.

From the 1982 adaptation of King Lear starring Michael Hordern in the title role this special effects dagger was custom made by the BBC Visual Effects Department. Constructed from metal the dagger features a tube to the handle which runs up the blade of the dagger to a small slit through which blood could be pumped to provide the illusion of someone being cut.

The dagger measures approximately 15" long and remains in good condition with a leather covering to the handle no longer present, otherwise fine.

An extremely rare and displayable artefact from these BBC adaptations.
