Description

From the 1980's advert campaign dubbed The Peterborough Effect commissioned by Peterborough Development Corporation in an effort to promote the city and its history this costume was worn by noted British character actor Roy Kinnear as a Roman Centurion speaking Latin.

Sourced for the advert from leading theatrical tailors Bermans and Nathans the costume would have been part of their hire stock and previously used in various unknown feature film productions. Constructed from heavyweight brown leather the costume features a number or ornamental lion head emblems with tie fastenings to the rear, the costume is hand inscribed to the interior with the size 48-50 and 'ROY KINNEAR PETERBOROUGH EFFECT' in marker pen, the crossed name 'WHITE' being from use in a previous unknown production.

The wardrobe remains in good vintage condition with surface wear from use and age, some of the fastening straps to the rear missing or partially missing, significant sweat stains are present to the underarms.

An interesting and unique talking point from this memorable campaign.
