If I Were King

François Villon (Ronald Colman) tunic

In Stock

An original costume used in the production of If I Were King, the 1938 historical drama starring Ronald Colman and Basil Rathbone under the direction of Frank Lloyd.

This tunic was worn on screen by Ronald Colman as François Villon in various scenes of the movie and was bespoke made for the production by noted industry tailors Western Costume. The tunic is constructed from lined brown material and features lapel, shoulder and cuff detailing in blue velvet with embroidered appliqué and a series of hook and eye fastenings. To the interior the wardrobe features the original Western Costume label which is hand inscribed '22552 #3 RONALD COLMAN'.

The costume remains in good production used and vintage condition exhibiting some wear, discolouration and soiling as you would expect from one which is now eighty years old.

An exceptionally rare example of principal character costume from this Academy Award nominated production.
