Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) stethoscope

Sold

Description

An original stethoscope used in the production of the long running BBC television series Doctor Who.

The fourth incarnation of The Doctor was portrayed by Tom Baker from 1974 to 1981, his tenure remains the longest in the shows (on screen) history, starring in over 170 episodes, he is widely considered to be the most recognisable of all the incarnations of the Time Lord. This stethoscope in the original used by Tom Baker as The Doctor in the season 17 serials The Horns of Nimon and The Creature from the Pit. This period stethoscope is constructed from metal with rubber tubing, screw off Bakelite chest piece and plastic ear tips.

After production this stethoscope was retained by series producer John Nathan-Turner where it formed part of John's collection of Doctor's props for many years. The stethoscope can be seen with John and the props box in the book A Day with a TV Producer on page 26.

The stethoscope remains in excellent condition throughout and represents an incredible example of an original screen used Doctor's hand prop from the golden age of this cult television programme used by, arguably, the most famous incarnation of this iconic character.
