Flash Gordon

Ming guard face plate

Sold

Description

An original prop from the production of Flash Gordon, the 1980 science fiction picture directed by Mike Hodges.

This is one of a number of face plates created for use by Ming's (Max Von Sydow) guards during the movie. Constructed from fibreglass the face plate has a metalised gold finish with black paint highlights to the eye and nose areas and two holes enabling the wearer to see. Although completely finished to a high standard it is likely that this example was not used on screen given the lack of any holes to the side of the mask through which elastic would have been threaded enabling it to be worn.

The face plate measures approximately 6" x 5" x 4" and remains in good vintage condition with some of the gold finish having worn off, other areas tarnished, otherwise fine.

A recognisable and highly displayable artefact from this cult science fiction classic.
