Child's Play 2

Crushed Jack-in-the-box

Description

An original prop used in the production of Child's Play 2, the 1990 horror sequel directed by John Lafia.

This prop Jack-in-the-box was used during the production of the trailer created to promote the release of the film for the shot where we see Chucky announce his return with the famous "Sorry Jack, Chucky's Back" line followed by him stamping on the Jack-in-the-box. This would have been achieved by rigging Chucky's boot on a rig in order to flatten the box. To ensure the box would flatten without too much force the prop is constructed from soft malleable lead which was hand painted by a production artist in bright yellow and features various colourful imagery. It is likely that several takes were made whilst perfecting this shot and although used and flattened during in the production this box does not appear to be the one in the final cut of the trailer.

The box measures approximately 5" x 5" x 3" in its flattened state and remains in generally excellent production used condition with some paint loss, most notably where the metal has folded, and lacks the crank handle.

A vibrant and highly displayable artefact from this highly regarded horror franchise.
