Description

This is the original certificate presented to special effects supervisor Brian Johnson by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) as part of the team nominated in the category of Best Visual Effects for Ridley Scott's 1979 genre classic Alien.

On April 14, 1980 Alien won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, this was presented to H.R. Giger, Carlo Rambaldi, Brian Johnson, Nick Allder and Dennis Ayling by Farrah Fawcett and Harold Russell having beaten off stiff competition from the likes of The Black Hole, Moonraker and Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The certificate features the names of the five nominees stating that they are nominated for outstanding achievement in visual effects and is hand signed by AMPAS president Fay Kanin and secretary Donald C. Rogers with an image of the iconic Academy Award statuette to the left side. The nomination is presented in a simple silver frame in which it has been located for a number of years and remains as it was displayed at the home of recipient Brian Johnson from whom it was obtained directly.

The certificate measures approximately 11" x 9.5" and remains in excellent framed condition with only minor age related wear, overall very fine.

An incredibly rare and desirable example of a genuine nomination certificate for the highest accolade in the motion picture industry
