Red Dwarf

Bazookoid pistol

Sold

Description

An original gun used in the production of the BBC science fiction comedy series Red Dwarf.

This Bazookoid pistol was screen used in series VI, very much a scaled down version of the larger Bazookoid this represents a less cumbersome held hand version of the iconic weapon. Used on screen by both Robert Llewellyn as Kryten and Craig Charles as Lister, most notably when Kryten blasts the Lister who can play guitar in the series opener Psirens. It went on to be further used in the memorable episode Emohawk - Polymorph II.

The pistol was built for the series by Alan 'Rocky' Marshall of the BBC Visual Effects Department and is hand made in wood and EMA plastic parts with applied sticker and rubber detailing, it has been meticulously hand painted and weathered in keeping with the other Bazookoid weapons. The end of the barrel once housed a pyrotechnic device which was removed after production, this was common practice at the BBC and they often reused such parts. The handle houses two buttons and the side panel opens to reveal a series of battery powered electronics which, in part, light the red button on the side.

The weapon is in excellent screen used condition and is only missing the sight off the top, measuring 15 inches long and 11 inches high from the base of the handle to the top of the gun it is a very well made and extremely detailed prop and a testament to the level of talent within the BBC Visual Effects Department. The last two images in the sequence show Alan Marshall working on the weapon during the production of the show at BBC VFX.

An impressive artefact and stunning display piece from this cult television series.
