Description

A Tripod miniature from the BBC science fiction series The Tripods, based on a series of novels by John Christopher.

In 1984 a new major science fiction show was conceived which featured the three legged Tripods, posing a challenge for the BBC Visual Effects Department these were realised on screen using a combination of model miniatures and full size props. Designed by Steve Drewett and built by Martin Bower only two large scale complete Tripod miniatures were constructed, these could then duplicated using Paintbox, a primitive version of CGI as we know it today.

This large scale red Tripod miniature stands approximately 24" tall, it was built by Martin Bower and is a combination of original and replacement parts. The Prop Gallery supplied Martin with the lower head section, an original created at the time of production, and the original screen used guns from the red warrior Tripod. These original parts were then assembled into this complete model by Martin who recreated the top half of the head in fibreglass and created legs from brass tubing, the knee joints are moveable with the feet constructed in a ball and socket arrangement making them fully poseable as per the originals.

The Tripod stands almost 24" high, 13" wide with a leg span at the feet (front to back) of approximately 15".

An incredible display piece from this beloved BBC science fiction series.
