Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Tom Jung Darth Vader poster concept artwork

Sold

Description

Original artwork from the 1980 science fiction picture The Empire Strikes Back, the second instalment of the classic Star Wars franchise directed by Irvin Kershner.

Tom Jung is a noted movie poster illustrator who following his work on the original Star Wars poster was commissioned to produce work for The Empire Strikes Back. This is an original concept, drawn in Jung's hand, which was a part of the development process as he searched for the perfect look of the now iconic character of Darth Vader for his final design of the 'Style B' poster.

The artwork is accomplished in pencil on semi translucent artists vellum and depicts Darth Vader wielding his lighsaber, this atmospheric concept bears an excellent likeness to Vader and carries the signature of artist Tom Jung to the centre of the artwork. The artists vellum on which the concept is rendered has been backed with a further piece of white paper with tape to the corners which appears period to its creation. Such concepts would have been submitted to Lucasfilm for approval before the creation of the final poster design.

The concept artwork measures approximately 17" x 14" and remains in excellent condition, very fine.

An highly displayable example of original art with iconic subject matter from one of the most influential and highly regarded franchises in cinematic history.
