Star Trek: Enterprise

Andorian scanner - The Andorian Incident

Sold

Description

An original prop used in the production of Star Trek: Enterprise, the popular science fiction series which first aired in 2001.

This prop scanner was used on screen in Star Trek: Enterprise and features in The Andorian Incident, the seventh episode of the series. The scanner is impressively constructed from various materials including wood, metal and perspex. Believed to have been conceived by production designer Geoffrey Mandel, the prop is entirely scratch built to an incredible standard, the handle is cast in metal and appears to be specifically made for the prop, the three ariels on each side all rotate individually with the switch for the graphic display light concealed within the prop. A panel on the base unscrews to reveal the battery packs and circuitry which power the lights. The wedge in front of the screen is fastened with strong Velcro in order access the screen internals to change the design on the scanner display. Originally featuring a light up screen with illuminating perspex shapes to the side and front this is no longer operational, likely due to the expired batteries concealed within.

This intricately detailed piece stands approximately 22" high, the main body of the prop measuring 9" wide with the side control panel and ariel lugs adding further width, it measures approximately 18" deep and is in excess of 10kg in weight. The prop remains in generally excellent condition with light wear from production use and some scratching to the underside. A fine example of prop building at the highest level and a testament to the production values employed on this popular series. Originally sold at the 40 years of Star Trek auction held by Christie's in 2006 the prop still retains the original auction tag.

A highly displayable artefact from one of the most popular science fiction franchises in history.
