Battlefield Earth

Psychlo blaster

Sold

Description

An original blaster used in the production of the 2000 science fiction picture Battlefield Earth based on the novel penned by scientologist L. Ron Hubbard.

The Psychlo blasters were designed for the movie by noted British effects artist Bill Pearson (Alien, Outland) and were constructed as both practical hero weapons in aluminium and non functional props constructed in moulded resin in both unfolded and firing positions. This is an original blaster used during the production, constructed from resin and dressed with some plastic parts, painted and weathered to a high standard the weapon features both a lethal and stun barrel meaning the weapon could be used either way around.

The weapon measures approximately 11" x 11" at its widest points and remains in excellent production used condition with some very minor paint wear. The prop is presented on a stand which was fabricated by Bill Pearson who was gifted this example after production wrapped, the display stands an impressive 13" high.

Battlefield Earth is widely regarded to be one of the worst films ever made which has reportedly been described by critics as "a cross between Star Wars and the smell of ass", "unpleasant in a hostile way" and "stunningly misguided" with its only redeeming features being the cinematography and elements of the design and work by the miniature effects unit. Despite its poor reviews the blaster represents a beautifully designed and highly displayable artefact from the movie.
