Practical miniature golfer - Timeslides

Sold

Description

An original miniature used in the production of the BBC science fiction comedy series Red Dwarf.

This is one of the original prop golfers used at the very start of the Series III episode Timeslides as Cat (Danny John-Jules) and Lister (Craig Charles) play table golf. The golfer was entirely custom built for the production by Nick Kool of the BBC Visual Effects Department, standing atop a metal base dressed to resemble grass he is constructed from mixed materials which include wooden legs and the head and hands of a commercially available rubber toy. The main body of the golfer is intricately constructed from brass and is fully practical so that when the head of the golfer is depressed he swings his custom made metal golf club forward to take the shot. The costume consists of felt pants and a hand knitted miniature jumper of yellow wool with a blue pattern, this was created by the BBC Costume Department and was reportedly kitted using cocktail sticks! Interestingly when Danny John-Jules uses the prop on screen he pushes the club forward with his finger perhaps unaware that this is a practical working prop.

The miniature golfer stands approximately 4.5" high and remains in excellent screen used condition throughout, it represents a beautifully crafted example of a practical prop which is a testament to the level of talent within the BBC Visual Effects Department.

A rare and highly displayable artefact from the early days of this cult science fiction series.
