An original costume design used in the production of Vanity Fair, the 1967 BBC drama adaptation starring Susan Hampshire.

This is an original costume design for the character Martha 'Mrs Bute' Crawley portrayed by Fanny Rowe, accomplished on green paper in watercolour paints with pen and pencil outlining by costume designer Joan Ellacott. The design artwork features a number of annotations with the name of the actress to the top left corner and is hand inscribed 'VANITY FAIR, MRS BUTE CRAWLEY' with further notes relating to the costume. Signed by artist Joan Ellacott and dated 1967 to the bottom right the green paper on which the artwork is accomplished has been adhered to a further sheet of white card.

The costume design has an overall measurement of 11" x 15" and remains in excellent production used condition, very fine.

A fine production artefact and a nice example of original artwork from this well regarded BBC adaptation.
