Mr. Merlin

Production used clapperboard

Description

An original clapperboard used in the production of Mr. Merlin, the 1981 American sitcom starring Barnard Hughes.

This production used traditional style black wooden clapperboard with hinged clap stick bears the movie title 'MR. MERLIN' hand inscribed in marker pen on applied tape with the names 'BIXBY', for American television star Bill Bixby as director and 'BROWNE' for cameraman, which refers to cinematographer Ronald W. Browne, hand inscribed in the same fashion. The board also features the production number '183411' and retains the date '11-1-81' from its last use on the production in addition to Columbia Pictures printed logo which is taped to the top right corner.

The clapperboard measures approximately 11" x 9.5" and remains in generally good condition with signs of heavy production use to include significant edge and paint wear. Given that the last two digits of the production number have been taped over and changed it seems likely that this board also saw use on other Columbia Pictures productions.

An interesting example of the iconic clapperboard from this American television series.
