Description

An original costume used in the production of the 1967 war picture The Dirty Dozen starring Lee Marvin with the support of an ensemble cast.

This officers tunic was worn on screen by Lee Marvin as Major John Reisman in the opening scenes of the movie, constructed from heavyweight khaki green coloured wool the military tunic is lined to the interior and bears the label of noted industry costumiers Morris Angel & Son which is hand inscribed 'MR LEE MARVIN' in ballpoint pen. Following the production the many decorative elements of the costume were removed including the bars and numerous badges, evidence remains to the top of the left arm where the patch was once situated with similar evidence remaining where the rank bands to the cuffs were once placed. The costume remained part of Angels military stock for many years and at some stage has had the buttons replaced for use in a subsequent production as is common with costumes of this nature.

The costume remains in excellent condition lacking one brass belt hook with some light wear to the left forearm and minor repairs evident from the interior which have been professionally executed.

An incredibly rare example of principal character costume from this highly regarded war film.
