Hero Sea Base 4 rifle - Warriors of the Deep

Sold

Description

An original prop used in the production of the long running BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who.

From the 1984 serial Warriors of the Deep starring Peter Davison as The Doctor rifles such as this can be seen used frequently by various characters on the base including by The Doctor himself and Turlough (Mark Strickson). The rifle was custom made for the production by the BBC Visual Effects Department and is constructed from various materials to include a stock and main body of wood with a barrel of EMA plastic, the prop is hand painted and highly detailed with tape and other parts, it also features two screw eyes which attach an elasticated shoulder strap.

This particular example is a hero version with a detachable side piece and interior magazine which can be seen used by The Doctor at the beginning of episode three as he removes it and throws it at The Myrka. The detachable side is held by a metal turn button which when removed reveals the internal magazine which is constructed from wood with a painted finish and tape detailing. The regular rifles used by the other guards on the base do not feature the removable side meaning there is no turn button making it possible to distinguish between them on screen, a hero rifle can also be seen used by Turlough in multiple scenes.

The rifle measures an impressive 37" in length and remains in excellent screen used condition with some minor paint wear and lacking a small piece to the side of the removable section, overall very fine.

A highly displayable artefact from this classic science fiction series.
