Dwarf (Angelo Rossitto) costume

Description

An original costume used in the production of The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm, the 1962 fantasy picture directed by Harry Levin and George Pal.

This costume can be seen worn by Angelo Rossitto and one of the dwarfs from Snow White in the dream sequence in which Wilhelm Grimm lies ill in bed and names his various characters. The six piece costume was bespoke made for Rossitto by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer wardrobe department and comprises the following elements accompanied by two original cardboard wardrobe tags each hand inscribed in black marker.

  • Tabard constructed from paint weathered chamios leather featuring a collar of pink material with lace up front retaining original MGM Studio label to the interior collar hand inscribed '1786, A. ROSSITTO' in black ink.
  • Button up shirt featuring leather detail and orange sleeves complete with hand inscribed MGM label to the interior collar.
  • Apron of chamois leather featuring custom made non functional buttons with paint weathering, hand inscribed to the back 'ROSITTO' (sic).
  • Trousers of orange material featuring full feet with zip fastening and elasticated waist, complete with hand inscribed MGM label to the interior waistband.
  • Hat of chamois leather featuring internal wire armature allowing it to be posed as desired.
  • Shoes of painted pink leather featuring upturned toes with winged back and button fastening, each hand inscribed 'ROSSITTO' to the interior.

The costume remains in generally excellent screen used vintage condition exhibiting some minor age related wear and lacking a small part of the apron tie, overall very fine.

An extraordinarily rare museum quality example of original wardrobe from this fantasy classic for which Mary Wills won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design.
