Description

A collection of behind the scenes photographs from the production of The Day the Earth Caught Fire, the 1961 science fiction disaster picture directed by Val Guest.

These original vintage photographs were taken during the production of the special effects work by Bowie films headed up by noted effects artist Les Bowie. Two of the photographs show an impressive miniature set up and the crew including effects artists Les Bowie, Kit West, Ian Scoones, Gordon Gardner and Pat Carr, the other three showing matte painting set ups which appear to have been cut from a contact sheet, one hand inscribed with the title of the move, these believed unpublished.

The photographs measure approximately 9" x 6", 5" x 4.5" and 2.5" x 2.5" respectively and remain in good vintage condition exhibiting paper remains to the verso having been removed from a scrapbook, one hand inscribed with names of the crew.

A rare collection of behind the scenes material from this British science fiction classic.
