Al Capone (Jason Robards) suit
An original costume used in the production of The St. Valentine's Day Massacre, the 1967 gangster picture based on the famous 1929 events starring Jason Robards under the direction of Roger Corman.
This costume was worn on screen by Jason Robards as Al Capone in the pivotal sequence where an attempt is made on his life at the Hawthorne Hotel. Bespoke made for the production by leading industry tailors Western Costume the three piece suit of grey pinstripe consists of jacket, waistcoat and trousers with the former featuring a Western Costume label to the interior pocket which is type written '2473-1' and 'Jason Robards #2'. Each of the costume pieces further tagged by Western with barcode labels and hand inscribed '3PC 1930s'.
The jacket can be screen matched to the aftermath of the assassination attempt and remains in excellent screen used condition exhibiting a minor period repair to the rear collar with some slight discolouration and minor staining to the trousers, in fine vintage condition throughout.
An incredibly rare example of principal character wardrobe from this classic gangster picture.
