Moon

1:6 scale rover wheel

Sold

Description

An original rover wheel used in the production of Moon the acclaimed science fiction drama directed by Duncan Jones and starring Sam Rockwell.

For the production Bill Pearson and his model team created four rover filming miniatures, three of these were built in 1:12 scale, as was the rest of the moonbase with one hero rover built in 1:6 scale. Created at Shepperton Studios this wheel served as the original master wheel for the 1:6 rover miniature, it was then moulded to create the wheels used on the hero rover miniature. This wheel was also used for creating tracks on the Moon surface on the model stage during filming by rolling it with a welding rod through the middle as the large rover miniature was big, heavy and awkward to manoeuvre.

The wheel is constructed from plastic and resin around an internal structure of MDF with the raised resin detailing simulating the tread required for such moon based travel! Finished in grey primer the prop measures approximately 8.5" in diameter and 6" wide it remains in excellent production used condition and still has a quantity of moon surface dust stuck in its tracks from use on set. The final image shows this very wheel on the model stage with Bill Pearson during filming.

Presented here directly from the collection of Moon model unit supervisor Bill Pearson, The Prop Gallery COA supplied with the item will also be signed by Bill and accompanied by a high quality 7" x 5" photographic print of him with the item.

An excellent display piece from this already cult science fiction masterpiece.
